Fashion Icons Support the Free the Nipple Campaign
Celebrities are the biggest influencers and they are the best catalysts for raising awareness of important issues. Today’s fashion icons support the Free the Nipple campaign, including Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid recently made head-turning statements when they chose to go braless over the past weeks.
thank YOU… #rp @lolakirke #tb to when I shaved my armpits. Photo by @dolphindylan, thank you + #freethenipple for making me the human that I am and showing me that a woman's inability to go topless, whether she wants to or not, is just another expression of gender inequality and perpetuates the notion that women's bodies are inherently sexual spaces. (@instagram are you listening?)
What is the Free the Nipple campaign?
According to its website, “Free the Nipple is a global campaign of change, focused on the equality, empowerment, and freedom of all human beings. Free the Nipple has become a premiere voice for gender equality, utilizing all forms of modern media, to raise awareness and effect change on various social issues, and injustices.”
Which celebrities support the Free the Nipple campaign?
Kendall Jenner is one of the most public advocate of the campaign. The supermodel and entrepreneur has been seen out and about, braless or with a cute nipple accessory, like stars and pizza emojis.
“Lately, it’s like I’m either braless or I have my bra out, lol. I’m all about freeing the nipple! I just think it’s cool to show off what’s under your shirt—whether that’s a cute bralette or just skin. ;)” (Kendall Jenner)
Jenner recently created a lot of buzz with her revealing La Perla runway look at New York Fashion Week as well as the sheer top she wears as a sneak peek for the Kendall + Kylie collection.
Bella Hadid has also been spotted several times going for the braless look. During the Paris Couture Dior masquerade ball held last month, the model stole the scene when she appeared in a powder blue gown with a sheer bodice. At the Prabal Gurung Fashion Week 17, Hadid wore a sheer top that said “The Future is Female.”
Miley Cyrus is also a very public supporter of the movement, and she even flashed her boobs in a holiday snap. And, she made a point to talk about how the public reacts to nipples on Jimmy Kimmel’s show.
Other fashion icons support the Free the Nipple campaign as well, including Kate Moss, Scoutt Willis, Cara Delevigne, Rita Ora, Rihanna, Playboy model Simon Holtznagel, and Candice Swanepoel.
