We’ve Got Great News for Moms in New York
Do you know that some women are unable to breastfeed their newborns even if they want to? Luckily, there’s great news for moms in New York who want to feed their babies with breast milk but have difficulties in breastfeeding. Two groups have collaborated to allow a fast delivery system for breast milk, which will make you proud to be a New Yorker.
The New York Milk Bank (NYMB) is an organization dedicated to improving the health and survival of NY infants in need by providing them with safely pasteurized donor human milk. Julie Bouchet-Horwitz, NYMB’s executive director, shares that their priority for delivering milk as quickly as possible has led them to collaborate with the Siren’s Women’s Motorcycle Club of New York City, an all-female biker group.
“I always see these motorcyclists weaving in and out of traffic while we’re stuck, and I thought, what if milk has to get to a hospital right away? Maybe we should use a motorcycle rider to bring the milk in and out of Manhattan.” (Julie Bouchet-Horwitz)
Members of the Sirens accepted the challenge to provide a very special service, which one member notes makes them “uniquely positioned to do the job.” Another member shared that the decision to accept the gig was unanimous as they also wanted to help out.
So, if you’re looking for female role models and inspirational humans of New York, you’ve got these Sirens to look up to. And that’s not just great news for moms in New York, women supporting women is inspiring news for every woman, everywhere.
