High School Crush and Girlfriend Inspires Ed Sheeran Song
From his music’s worldwide success to his current relationship status, Ed Sheeran is definitely having the time of his life. In fact, Sheeran’s high school crush and girlfriend, Cherry Seaborn, inspired one of the songs in his third album, Divide.
In an interview with Us Weekly, the British pop celebrity shares how he reconnected with Seaborn, a 24-year-old financial consultant. The singer and his girlfriend first got acquainted at Thomas Mills High School, in their hometown of Suffolk, England. Seaborn moved to North Carolina to attend Duke University.
“One of our best friends worked on my tour. So when we came to New York, where she was living at the time, we hung out and reconnected through our mutual friend. She’s great.”
The two are rumoured to have been in a relationship since 2015, and may even be already engaged with Russell Crowe calling Seaborn as Sheeran’s fianceé.
“This has been the first time I’ve ever actually had the time to fall in love properly. I’ve always got into relationships very passionately – I’m a redhead and also Irish.”
High School Crush Inspires “Perfect”
The first line of the ballad, “I found a love for me,” will definitely make you feel Sheeran’s passion.
“Perfect’ was the first song that I wrote for the album, It was inspired by Cherry. The line that goes, ‘Barefoot on the grass, listening to our favorite song’ was about when we were in Ibiza listening to Future’s March Madness literally not wearing any shoes and going mental on the lawn, which was quite a nice time. I didn’t see her first reaction to the song because she lived in New York at the time. So I just emailed it to her but she did really like it.”
Now, if that isn’t enough to make you jealous of Seaborn, Sheeran, who now lives with his high school crush and “wonderful girlfriend” in their hometown, has admitted to Rolling Stone:
“One day this will [all] f–king end. And I know the one person that’s going to remain constant is Cherry.”
