It’s Time to Embrace Ambition and Pursue Your Dreams
Tory Burch and her namesake foundation have collaborated with our favorite celebrities to make the commemoration of this year’s International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month much more meaningful. The new social media campaign invites everyone to Embrace Ambition.
“Fearlessly pursue your dreams. Embrace your ambitions.”
The #EmbraceAmbition campaign aims to raise awareness on the double standards that exists around ambition, which is typically viewed as a negative trait for women but a positive trait for men. Specifically, it sheds light into workplace discrepancies with a PSA-style video set to the tune of Sia’s Unstoppable.
Tory Burch shares in a press release how and when she realized that being ambitious should not be viewed negatively.
“In one of my first interviews, a reporter mentioned the word ‘ambitious,’ and I commented that the word annoyed me. A friend of mine said, ‘You should never shy away from that word.’ She was right. I realized that I had bought into the stigma that women shouldn’t be ambitious – that it was unattractive. That creates a harmful double standard that we must overcome in order to achieve equality.”
Both male and female celebrities and influencers have joined the campaign and they each have some powerful words to share. The growing list includes Korean human rights activist Yeonmi Park, Olympic Gold Medalist Gabby Douglas, Philanthropist Melinda Gates, renowned sculptor Teresita Fernández, singer-songwriter Alicia Keys, actresses Lucy Liu, Mindy Kaling, Diane Kruger, Julianne Moore, Jamie Lee Curtis, Reese Witherspoon, Kerry Washington, and models Heidi Klum and Yara Shahidi.

Because being ambitious is a positive thing, take it from Yara Shahidi.
And, yes, Jon Hamm, men need to be included in this conversation.
