Why Are People Travelling to this Canadian Iceberg?

By  |

While many of us are exciting about warm and sunny weather, there are many still who prefer cooler temperatures. This is one reason why people are travelling to see this Canadian iceberg, which showed up near Ferryland, in Newfoundland.

Another reason why the huge iceberg in Canada is attracting a slew of tourists who want to get up close and personal with this piece of ancient ice is because it is huge! While an iceberg isn’t really much of a big a deal, the iceberg that appeared shortly after Easter Sunday (April 16, 2017), is really big and is even described as taller than the one that sank the Titanic.

Huge Canadian Iceberg Attracts Tourists

Noting that this is huge enough to impress the local community, which has already seen a lot of ice, it does not come as a surprise that tourists are flocking to see the humongous slab of ice situated at the tip of Iceberg Alley.

“It’s a huge iceberg and it’s in so close that people can get a good photograph of it. It’s the biggest one I [have] ever seen around here.” (Mayor Adrian Kavanagh)

Photos circulating around social media platforms showing how big the iceberg is as people appear dwarfed by the ice tower. Other photos show the pristine white ice with additional smaller icebergs, which can be spotted on a clear day according to Mayor Kavanagh of Ferryland.

CTV News reports that fans of this huge iceberg can thank strong winds off the coast of Greenland, as these are responsible for pulling the ice down south. You can also credit global warming, which is contributing to the ice sheet shedding in Greenland.

If you’d like to travel to this huge Canadian iceberg, you can head over to Ferryland, Newfoundland. But, you’ve got to travel as soon as you can as it is already beginning to drift away from town.
